Rolling from Athens to Faliro Bay.
This tour introduces visitors to the charms and contradictions of Athens as experienced by its inhabitants, while allowing cyclists to get up some speed. It combines several different aspects of the city. Historic Athens, ordinary residential areas, early twentieth-century refugee housing, award-winning modern architecture, and the irresistible sea experience.
This tour is ideal if you wish to go beyond the standard tourist routes and get a real feeling for the wider city. If you have two days to spend in Athens, we suggest taking the City Highlights Tour on your first day and continue with this Tour on the next day (special price available).
You’ll meet your guide at our Start Point, close to the vibrant and picturesque Monastiraki Square (and metro station) in the center of historic Athens.
After setting off, we shall continue past the Ancient Athenian Agora and the Thesion Temple to reach the main cycle lane.
From this point on, we’ll continue along the new designated cycle-only route towards the seaside. We cycle alongside the tracks of the Athens-Piraeus light rail link, following also traces of the ancient Ilissos river and passing some residential areas of the city.
Before reaching the sea, we go by the brand new cultural center of the New Opera House and National Library Buildings designed by Renzo Piano, completed in the summer of 2016, and donated to the Greek State by the Niarchos Foundation (click here for more info).
Moving on, we go over the pedestrian bridge and reach Faliro Bay and the coast esplanade. We cycle round the 2004 Olympic installations, a warship-turned-naval museum, then finally we can even stop for a swim at the beach to refresh ourselves. We return to central Athens by the same route.
*If you want a more focused and thorough introduction to the city, we suggest you choose one of our walking tours.
